Challenge: integrating insurance quickly while delivering an exceptional customer experience

To meet the evolving needs of its growing international user base, bunq set out to enhance their bunq Elite account with embedded travel insurance. This added benefit looked to attract more users to bunq’s top-tier plan while providing a seamless experience that aligned with their digital-first approach.

In doing so, bunq needed a partner that could swiftly integrate a new insurance product within their platform while ensuring a frontend user-friendly experience as well as backend transparency and efficiency.

Solution: embedded travel insurance for seamless banking

By partnering with Qover, bunq embedded travel insurance into their bunq Elite plan, available in seven European countries – and counting.

This embedded integration not only simplifies access to travel insurance – users are covered for all trips – but it also enhances the overall user experience by ensuring that the service is readily available within the bunq app. Users can manage their insurance coverage alongside their regular banking activities, making it a convenient option for the modern, mobile lifestyle of frequent travelers and expatriates. If they have an issue while traveling, they can easily file a claim in their bunq app.

We supported bunq with a light initial integration, hosting key user touchpoints, like claims and travel certificate forms externally. This approach maintained cost efficiency while leaving room for future enhancements.

Qover’s embedded insurance orchestration played a crucial role in this solution, as we co-created the insurance coverage with bunq to make sure that it was tailored to the needs of bunq’s diverse user base. 

Together, we carefully reviewed terms and conditions to prevent common claim rejections, ensuring a smooth process from understanding coverage to claims handling. This user-centric approach was bolstered by our in-house user support teams, which provide bunq users with consistent and reliable service.

We prioritised transparency through a real-time data dashboard, which helps bunq monitor program performance such as claim data and make sure that their users are getting the most out of their insurance.

The partnership launched embedded travel insurance within just six weeks, setting a new benchmark for speed and efficiency.
